A Note From the Director  Carissa Milam has enjoyed an extensive career in the performing arts. She has performed professionally in dance, theater and voice. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Ms. Milam has been dancing since the age of 3. At age 12, she was invited to join the Austin Contemporary Ballet Company. Carissa has been awarded dance scholarships to the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Northwestern University, Ballet Austin, Bennington College and Interlochen Center for the Arts. She graduated top in her class at Westlake High School. In pursuit of dance training and academic rigor, Ms. Milam attended the University of Michigan, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Psychology. She currently holds the terminal degree in dance, an M.F.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from Mills College. In the Master's program, Carissa performed as a soloist with the prestigious Repertory Company. Her thesis entailed writing Dance Educational Programming, a curriculum for dancers ages 2 - 10 years. Carissa returns to the Austin area to direct the ADC after dancing professionally with Ahdanco in San Francisco. Her passion for dance has lead to performances in New York City, Michigan, the Bay Area and a 14th century castle in Castiglioncello, Italy. In addition to an exciting performing career, Carissa is inspired by teaching dance to children! Students respond positively to her enthusiastic style, making her a popular dance teacher for over fifteen years. It is her goal to bring professional, fun dance training to the Austin area. The staff at the Austin Dance Company includes highly trained teachers in the field of dance. Moreover, they love working with children! They strive to make the dance class a fun and safe place to learn by utilizing a friendly, courteous and cheerful attitude. Dance Instructors  |
