There is a large lot to accommodate our families for dress rehearsal and recital directly in front of the McNeil Performing Arts Center. Dress Rehearsal: Dress rehearsal is mandatory for all dancers performing in the big show. Dancers must arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled start time dressed and ready to perform. Please remember to allow time for traffic. For our new students, this means that dancers arrive with costume, hair and makeup complete. This is your dancer’s only time to practice on stage for their important day. Parents must stay with their children and chaperone them at all times. Parents are welcome to come into the theater during their child’s dance to video the dress rehearsal. This is a great opportunity, as videotaping is prohibited at the recital. Some dancers may need to repeat their dance onstage for lighting and technical cues. Please respect the work the dancers, teachers and ADC staff are working on and do not talk inside the theater. Once your child has performed, you are free to go. Tickets: Per your costume order form, your Recital Fee includes two tickets to the recital. You will need to purchase a ticket for each additional person who would like to attend the show. All additional tickets will be $10.00. Dancers performing in the recital do not need to purchase a ticket. Before Arriving to the Show: Be sure to label all shoes, accessories and costume parts with your child’s name. We have lost many items after a big show. By labeling your items, you are more likely to get them back. Upon Arrival: Dancers need to report to the backstage area 30 minutes prior to the show time – (i.e. 4:30 pm). Parents sign their child in at the registration table. We will have fun activities to entertain the children while they wait their turn to perform. Parents are welcome to go and get their seats for the show. No parents will be allowed in any backstage area. Dance is a team activity and as such, we require all dancers to stay for the entire show. Volunteers will be in the dressing room to help the dancers. Concert Procedure: Dancers will wait backstage during the show. Volunteers are there to help the dancers and to be sure the show is running smoothly. Parents and dancers are expected to be courteous to all of the volunteers working on the show for them. If any parent or dancer is disrespectful to the volunteers or ADC staff, the dancer will not be allowed to perform in the show. Performing in the annual recital is a special privilege and courtesy is expected. The ADC recital will last approximately 2 hours. Costume changes: If a dancer is in more than one dance, it is their responsibility to do their costume changes. Please ask for help if you need it! After the show: No dancer will be released to anyone before the entire show is over. The total show length is only 2 hours. After the grand finale/bow, dancers will return to the backstage area. One family member will pick up the dancer at the end of the show. Teachers and volunteers will supervise all dancers until they have been picked up. If everyone is patient and helpful, this will go very quickly and safely. Tip for Parents: Relax! This booklet should be very helpful in directing you. The dancers are well prepared! If you stay calm and enjoy the show, the dancers will too! Expect bumps along the road, however, patience and courtesy will help every situation. Information for the audience: • Remind your guests that there is No Videotaping, Flash or Digital Photography at the show. • Videotaping at any live performance is a legal matter that we have no control over. We must enforce this. Video taping is carefully monitored and we will be forced to stop the show and remove your camera and film. • Flash photography is very dangerous in live theater, especially in dance. If a flash goes off during the show and catches the eye of a dancer it can throw them off their balance and cause major injury. • Please stay seated for the show. It is very distracting to performers and other audience members if someone is getting up during the show. This is a short performance and should be treated in a professional manner. • If you have young children with you, please, be sure that they are quiet and still during this live performance. • Please plan to turn your cell phones and pagers off. • The performers at the Austin Dance Company have been trained to always do their best in whatever they do. They are excited to perform for you and hope that you will enjoy what they do. We know that you will love their show! Video: A professional video will be available for purchase through a private company. For more information with details and prices, please see the office. Flowers: Bouquets of fresh flowers will be available to pre-purchase before the show. For more information with details and prices, please see the office. Mandatory Picture Day: Saturday, May 17th at our Jester Village location. We ask that all dancers attend the photo session so that the class pictures will be complete; however, it is NOT mandatory to purchase the pictures. A professional photographer from an outside company will be taking photographs of our dancers in their recital costumes. To download a copy of the schedule, click here. |
